IN THE SNOW,

THE CHERRY BRANCH BLOSSOMED

I decided to make calligraphy on 7 layers of horizontal long rice paper, leaving  an space of around 5 cms between those becomes 35 cm.  It produces a nice transparency that remember me the mountains how it looks in Seoul and also makes the feeling of an endless continuity.

The phrase has to penetrate deep into the viewer, feeling with pleasure into the heart, and without any distraction in the thoughts. The Word is the Creative Verb, who says There be and There is. The Word is life that penetrates into the heart and creates life.

The rice paper produces a quiet sensation of fragility and impermanence of time and things. The white of the paper supports the idea of winter time. And the white of the paper is the white of rice, a white that is inside of us, that gives life, that we eat everyday. The seven papers represents the days of the week.

The verb is in past time and the cherry blossoms in spring time.  Also, the cherry, whether red or white, puts a spot of colour and perfume to the picture.

And something very important is that it becomes an installation with the mind as a producer of image inside of the viewer.

I think it represents very well the idea of TOMORROW, and also, it comes with the idea of THE ART, THERAPY IN DAILY LIFE because in the middle of something that looks with any hope of life because the coldness, it has the hope to flourish in a beautiful piece of art as life is.

The lettering is Papyrus style because it has a dense and thin irregular line that becomes with the idea of covered with snow.

The phrase comes in two lines with a distance of 3.5 between them. The two lines represent the parallelism of human being and nature. Also makes an island the idea of IN THE SNOW placed in the centre respect of the second idea that keeping that distance of  3.5 cm between them the eye holds everything in one view. The space between each letter is regular forming a compact and firm idea that backs up the meaning.

The use of the calligraphy with brush in black ink gives the idea of one, with the interior work, makes oneself a piece of art and becomes a unity with nature and with the universe. The use of ink on rice paper remembers a constant work for to be able to do it. All this placed with enough emptiness around bringing the idea that God holds everything and He is life.
